Obsessions and Phases

It's funny how kids have these phases where they get really into something for a while. Here are a couple of ours lately...

  • Sammy has been paying attention to numbers more lately and will go look at the clock and tell me the numbers if he hears me wondering what time it is, etc. Today I gave the checker at Albertsons my phone number, and then on the way out to the car Sammy repeated it to me. He loves to make up big numbers to describe when something is a lot, and he frequently says 1831 for some reason.

  • Natalie is very difficult to get clothes on when we get her out of the bath because she always wants to hide under her blankets before she gets her clothes on. She is also still really into bums, so much so that when they're eating their dinosaur chicken nuggets, she'll eat the tail first and point out that she just ate the bum.

  • Sammy is really into guns, etc. Sometimes his obsession with violent things is a little unnerving to me, though I think it's just natural boy. Through him, Natalie has gotten into similar things a little bit. One day after Sammy had been playing a type of cops and robbers game with Charity, Natalie started pretending "bad guys coming - hurry hide" all the time.

  • Natalie cracks me up all the time because she's so minnie, yet seems to be able to understand and communicate anything. One thing that she does that always makes me laugh is when she's running out of the room to get something and says reassuringly "back in minute mom."

  • Sammy has really gotten into asking "what can we do?" lately, a phase that my mom assures me won't end until he's fully grown. At night time when I go into to kiss him, he always asks "Mom, what are we going to do tomorrow?"

Snow, snow, and more snow!

I can't believe how much snow we've had this winter! It's been fun to see all the igloos, etc. Here's ours. A couple of weeks ago, we went up to the pond and there were a couple different people ice fishing. One friendly guy offered to let Sam use his stuff and catch a fish. He had been catching little fish every couple minutes, so Sam was able to catch his first fish not at a hatchery. It was so fun! When we came home, Nate and Sam stayed outside and worked on this igloo. What a fun day - I'm so glad Sam and Natty have such a fun dad that plays with them so much and does such fun things with them!

A Girl

We're going to have another girl! We had our 20 week ultrasound on Wednesday and I decided that I wanted to find out if it was a boy or girl this time. Nate probably would have waited to find out again if it were only up to him, but was totally good to go along with how I wanted to do it this time. I partly thought it would make it more real for the kids to know whether they're having a sister or brother and to see us getting out the girl clothes, etc. And I just wanted to know. Sammy was a little disappointed, so I'm glad he knew ahead of time. Anyhow, we're excited!
